Wikipedia article creates circular references – Tech Debug
April 21, 2008
Andrew Keen would have a few things to say about this, I’m sure.
An anonymous user recently added to Wikipedia’s entry on Sacha Baron Cohen, asserting he was once an investment banker with Goldman Sachs. The entry was then referenced in an article by a journalist at the Independent. (Original Wikipedia edit here.)
To complete the circle, subsequent Wikipedia edits referenced the Independent’s article.
Sacha Baron Cohen has, inevitably, never worked as an investment banker with Goldman Sachs or anyone else.
As a Wikipedian, I find this all a bit embaressing. Is this a sign that the wheels have fallen off Web 2.0?

Thanks for linking to my post. I think this is more prevalent than we think, and as a wikipedia editor as well I dont like the idea – hence writing this article. I’ve even had a response in one of my comments of another example the “turduckencorpheail”!!
